Hi 👋 I need help ASAP!!
I'm back to work in 3 weeks and my 5month old breastfed daughter wont take a bottle 😩 I've tried 4 different bottles with different teets with my pumped milk.. I think I've tried almost everything! Any ideas? Please 🙏

Has anyone else tried giving her a bottle? She might be confused for that reason.

Bernade · 07/05/2021 21:15

Yes I've tried that but she's having none of it :(

I started using a cup from 5 months, and went back to work at 6 months. There is a lot of mess and it's a steep curve. She's 18 months and drinks out of any adult cup or bottle as well as her own with no difficulty.

Specifically used a diody cup.

We also had better luck at 5 months with sippy cups with our two breastfed and bottle-resistant babies. When my DS started nursery at 6 months when I had to go back to work part-time, the first day they had to feed him milk on a spoon (those ladies are saints!!!) But by Day 2 he’d got the hang of the sippy cup.

One other thing - if you can pump breast milk, I found my two transitioned better to sippy cups with pumped milk rather than with formula. Changing two variables at the same time was just too much for them! We introduced formula very gradually mixed with breast milk and after a few weeks they got the hang of it.

Try formula, and get someone else to give the bottle when you're out of the house and LO is hungry. Kelly Mom has a useful page called how to bottle feed a breast fed baby.

Any joy? I'm having the same problem

Bernade · 12/05/2021 22:00

No joy 🤦‍♀️ I've pumped, tried sippy cups and at least 5 other bottles.. she won't take a bottle/sippy cup from anyone else either. I've even tried her with a dummy (pacifier)the same mark as the bottes so she gets used to the teet but she constantly spits it out also. I dunno what to do...

What happened? Same problem here

Bernade · 15/05/2021 19:39

Tough love just. I refused to give her my boob.. and mam bottles with a size 1 teet! I've been trying everything for 5/6 weeks now and today I decided no matter how much she cried looking boobie i wasn't going to give in and it worked.

How many hours did you hold off from feeding her ?

Bernade · 18/05/2021 20:29

It was probably about 4hrs before she took the bottle(she did have her carrot purée in the meantime).. she went from point blank refusing the bottle and spitting the milk out for weeks on end to holding it and almost actually feeding herself
