bleeding and breastfeeding..

hello,

My name is Kerry and I am 28 (well I am til Friday !) I have two children, my son is 28 months and my daughter is 10 months. I breastfed my son til he weaned himself at 8 months and I was pregnant again by the time he was 10 months.

After my 1st child I had no bleeding until he was 7 months, This time I took the depot, and bled for weeks on it, so when I was due for an update (my dd was 5 months) I didn't get it.

I had no other bleeding until about 8 weeks ago, since then I have bled every 10 days to 14 days for about 3 or 4 days..then the last few weeks I have bled every day in some way, spotting, brown bleeding etc.

My baby is only nursing once or twice a day (but for quite a while) and eats table food (she wants to be like her brother) so I was thinking it was due to that.

Am I completely abnormal?? Mentioned to Gp the other week and he said it was likely due to breastfeeding, but today saw a dr who said it could be anything..

anyone else get this type of thing??

is it just my hormones are out of balance??

thanks

Kerry

is it depo provera... the cintraceptive injection?

If it's an injection of the 'mini pill' then I think you can get bleeding while nursing, but not sure. I'm still bfing my 10month old twice a day and have been taking the mini pill orally and haven't bled at all. Didn't bleed after any of mine until I stopped bfing altogether, but know lots of people who've bled during bfing while also taking the mini pill. But bleeding every couple of weeks must be a pain and it sounds as though that method of contraception might not be the right one for you. I'd speak to your GP about it and see what other options are available. Hopefully they can sort you out with something more suitable for you. I do think this could be because you are bfing less though. If the dr you saw today said it could be anything and then hasn't offered any further advice, then I'd stick with the first one who sounds a little more sensible. If it's worrying you though, then you must spell it out to them how concerned you are and make sure they check you out. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi,

Thankyou for the replies. Pixiefish: the depot is the contraceptive shot (progesterone only)...Aero: I only took the one shot 8 months ago..I know that it only lasts for 3 months, but I have heard stories of after effects lasting longer. Right now we are just using barrier birth cntrol.

The first dr said that it is likely my hormones, but I am concerned as with my son I didn't have this erratic bleeding, but on the other hand he had done with breastfeeding at this stage, so maybe it would have happened with him too??

I guess I just wanted to be sure it was 'normal'..I hear lots about women having no periods, or even their periods returning, but not much about pain in the butt bleeding..

anyone else hear of that?

thanks!

kerry
