Infant gaviscon and constipation

DS is 7w old and has suffered with silent reflux since he was 2w old. We started on omeprazole to begin with but it made his symptoms worse, I persevered for a month but the screaming got worse and worse to the point where there wasn't one minute in the entire day when he was awake and not screaming. Since stopping the omeprazole we do get some calm moments, mainly first thing in the morning when he will be relatively settled, although the rest of the day is hit and miss. He's normally worst right after a feed where he can scream for over an hour before tiring himself out and falling asleep. It's absolutely soul destroying as my first son was the happiest baby so it's difficult to see how much pain this one is in.

GP has suggested trying gaviscon but I am EBF, so administration is a bit of a faff, but my biggest concern is the constipation. Has anyone:

A) had success with gaviscon for silent reflux
B) managed to avoid constipation when using it with a bf baby? GP suggested using lactulose alongside it but I know breast milk a a natural laxative so hoping he may not suffer as much as if he were FF?

I cut dairy out of my diet about 2 weeks ago but haven't seen a huge difference yet, DS still will not settle anywhere on his back, as soon as you try he screams the house down, but hoping it might make a difference soon as my first son actually had CMPA as well but didn't ever react to my milk when BF.

Please share your experiences with infant gaviscon -
The good, the bad, and the ugly!!

My baby is mixed fed (but mostly bf) and gaviscon hasn’t constipated him ☺️ His poo is thicker but more manageable to be honest, he has 3 sachets a day.
Found the calpol syringe is the easiest way to give it him when it’s not with one of his bottle feeds

Not breastfed but we used Colief drops alongside gaviscon to stop the constipation (it worked!). After a while, his body must have got used to the gaviscon as I ordered some colief online but the parcel got lost and he ended up just having gaviscon and was fine 🤷‍♀️

My DD has been on gaviscon since she was 5 weeks old (she’s just tuned 1) and it did give her constipation but it definitely helped with the reflux pain (not the sick mind). Doctor prescribed lactulose when she was small (she’s now on movicol) which helped on the days when she was really struggling.

I would try cutting out soya too. Over 50% of babies with CMPA are also allergic to soya. I tried gaviscon with DD1 but it didn’t really help, was a PITA to give and breast feed and caused constipation.
