He keeps slipping off - yet another problem!

Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse another problem has developed. When my DS is feeding his bottom lip sometimes looses it's suction and slips up and hits my nipple. This is very painful as they are badly cracked. He then fixes the problem himself straight away. It tends to happen mostly at the start of a feed when he is a bit frantic.

Could this be because I have given him a dummy and he has had a few bottles? I don't know how I can fix it.

That's what is tricky about it. It's really sore though when he does it. Taking him off makes no difference though as he re positions himself straight away - he just slips up for a moment but in that moment he is hitting the wound on my nipple which really hurts. It's weird because he didn't do it before.

I just googled baby slips on breast to see if anything came up. Bad move - I got some very dodgy results!

I have been told to take him off every time he does it so he learns not to. I hope it works as I hate taking him on and off during a feed.

my BF counsellor taught me to put a finger in DD1's mouth to get her calmed down a bit if she was frantic before the feed.

My baby's only 12 days old, so I don't have a vast amount of experience. However, when he's really hungry he sucks frantically, then slips off and then gets frustrated, and so the pattern continues. I've found putting him on the ther breast usually works. Then when he's more content after a few minutes I can put him back to the other breast.
Or drying the nipple he's just slipped off from, and then trying to latch him on again sometimes works.
Good luck. I didn't realise bfing could be so tiring & stressful until I started doing it for myself
