Urgent advice re stopping breastfeeding

I'm still exclusively breastfeeding my 10 month old on top of solids about 4 times a day but due to a medical procedure in 6 days I need to stop feeding by then. I'm panicking about how to do it with only 6 days to do it in. Would you go cold turkey or try and whittle it down over the next 6 days more gradually? Any other tips please? Thanks

You'll be uncomfortable whichever way you go. I'd probably just stop, but equally you've got time to drop a feed a day, which may make it easier.

Does the medical procedure mean that you won't be able to physically feed/express, or rather that meds mean your baby won't be able to take your breastmilk? I was just wondering if you could us a pump daily to make the transition more comfortable. Either way, you should be able to hand express a little if there is much discomfort. And yes, dropping a feed a day until then should give you a head start.

Thanks so much @NaToth and @Somethingsnappy. I told myself I'd just start this morning and see how we got on but I've managed 24 hours now without a feed to my surprise with distraction techniques, snacks and a little formula she took reluctantly (hoping to increase her intake of this over the next few days). Am slightly engorged tonight but expressing a little to get on top of it. I need to stop altogether sadly but thanks for the suggestion @Somethingsnappy. I'm feeling super guilty about it all though and just had a little cry. I just feel bad that I haven't stopped on my 10 month olds terms and that I'm depriving her of something she finds comforting and that has been a lovely bonding experience. Gosh being a mum is tough at times!
