Best breast pump for increasing milk supply

Hello I have been combi feeding for a week and half now after a rough start of solely breastfeeding and my baby losing a lot of weight, I was recommended to hire a hospital grade pump to increase my milk supply which I have but it isn't practical for night time as I'm finding it really hard to get up between 3-5am to express when my milk is at its highest, can anyone recommend a good portable breast pump to help me increase milk supply and that I can use during the night?? T.i.a

Hello @Jodiejm. I'm not sure about a good portable pump, someone should be along soon who can recommend one.

Just wondering if you've spoken to a BFC on one of the BFing Helplines? It's worth giving them a ring if weight loss is a concern Thanks

I had a hospital grade double pump that was portable because I had to pump at work on 15minute breaks. So I needed something fast and efficient but also gentle. It was by Medela.

I was never very successful with the electric pumps but with the mamia silicone suction pump I was always able to express lots of milk with very little effort. You just suction it on to your breast and the milk just flows. Ive never used in the night but I would pop it in whilst hoovering as well as feeding from the other side. I built up quite a supple in just a matter of days

You can hire a hospital grade pump from ardo. Google them and they deliver it to your house etc.

Medula double electric breast pumps are good! Elvie is supposed to be good to but more expensive!

FingersXssd83 · 28/04/2021 22:35

Ardo is very good too! I used this in the hoprial a d it was brill. I think you hire them... definitely worth a look!

*Hospital and (very tired, sorry!)

The medela one is good. I used that with my last child but for the next one I have due I have been looking into the elvie which looks good. Not sure whether you can do it lying down, but if you could you could potentially doze whilst pumping, or at least sit up reclined in bed hands free and doze.

The Pumping session between 3-5 is such a killer, best of luck with it.

I was also told between 3/5 was the best time for the actual baby to feed from you too, rather than to lump (it’s linked to hormones I think?). So perhaps do a direct feed at that time rather than pump?

Thanks everyone
I'm currently hiring the Medela hospital grade one but am not keen and it's too bulky to carry upstairs for a night time, I'm finding it's not drawing out much mik either, weight is not an issue anymore baby is now back to birth weight but as I am combi feeding I need to increase my supply before I can EBF, I did want a hands free pump but the Elvie is expensive and has a lot of mixed reviews

Medela has several hospital grade pumps. The one I had was an early version of this one

Unfortunately I don't think they sell these in the UK @PlanDeRaccordement

If you are thinking of moving over to completely BFing there a great article here from Kellymom.

I'd also really recommend that you do this with the support of a local BFC. Have a look here to see if there's an LLL leader near to you or you can call one of the BFing Helplines and they may be able to offer some support Thanks
