despite having bfed ds1 for 9 months i rarely expressed, so am a bit of a novice

ds2 went 12 hours overnight (yay) so i was a bit engorged this morning. i expressed the side ds2 didn't empty and will give it to him at his next feed

so - i expressed at 8am and will feed him at 11ish. what should i do with the milk until then? do i have to refrigerate it then reheat? how long can it go unrefrigerated?

you can put it in the fridge for several days.

I thought it was maximum 24 hours in the fridge?

belgo · 11/11/2007 08:29

But you should refridgerate it until 11am.

ok thanks

next question: how long can i keep it out of the fridge in one of those insulated bags?

i.e. if i refrigerate it til 10:00, can i then put it in the avent bag til 11?

I think you can keep it out of the fridge for one hour.

The Breastfeeding Network has a guide on Storage of EBM

Once it has been in the fridge (4 degrees Celsius or below), then once out of the fridge: 6 hours max.
