Nipple Pain after Blocked Duct?

I've had quite a few block ducts in 1 year+ of breastfeeding. Woke up with one this morning and fairly quickly started feeling symptoms of an infection – exhaustion etc. But I did all my usual tricks (hot shower, frequent feeding, hot water bottle). The lump seemed to go away and the illness-like symptoms have too. But I'm left with a very sore nipple, which is something I haven't had before! Has anyone else experienced this? I'm quite perplexed...

With illness like symptoms I would be getting antibiotics. Is the duct definitely completely clear? I’ve had a bruised nipple after a blocked duct but I’ve also managed to partially clear a duct too.

I've had illness-like symptoms from blocked ducts before and have always managed without antibiotics. As I say, those symptoms have thankfully gone now.

I think the duct is clear but I'm not totally sure. I have cyst-y breasts so it's sometimes hard to tell.

This is perhaps a stupid question, but when you say you had a bruised nipple...did it look bruised? Because mine doesn't.

No, it just felt bruised inside - I was sore for about 24 hours and I could feel it for another 48 hours - it felt completely normal and not sore when feeding.

Thanks!

Yes have had sore nipples after blocked ducts, I take 400mg ibuprofen and that usually deals w it as it reduces inflammation.
