DS is 4 weeks old on Sunday and yesterday I took him to the doctors as he is sick way too much. The GP sent me up to the paediatrics ward at the hospital and after normal blood tests and urine sample came back fine, they basically said DS is being greedy and told me to lower his intake to 3oz every 3 hours instead of the 4oz he’s been having. But after trying this, he is still looking for more milk and I feel like I’m starving him. As well as the sick, he seems to be in discomfort and unsettled all the time, he makes noises as if he is straining for a poo but isn’t and when I am feeding him his stomach makes all kind of noises. I am going to ring the health visitor on Monday as she doesn’t work weekends but in the meantime is there anything anyone could suggest?

CMPA? Just a thought

@Fedfedfedup yes possibly, that did cross my mind. Hopefully the health visitor can look into it for me

Good luck, OP. In my experience, HVs and GPs have often fobbed off CMPA. I was told it wasn't possible as DD wasn't covered in eczema and didn't have blood in her poo. Luckily I was BFing so I cut dairy out of my diet and my word- I had a different baby!

@Fedfedfedup Oh really that’s interesting! Glad you got it sorted! Hopefully they don’t fob me off as I feel so sorry for him, something is clearly bothering him and he obviously can’t tell me what’s upSad Fingers crossed

Sounds like it could be reflux or CMPA. My baby would grunt and strain all the time, especially on her back and she had reflux. Doctor prescribed infant gaviscon which helped. I kept her upright for 30 minutes after a feed and made sure to burp her well.

How much sick is actually coming up? Sometimes it looks like a lot more than it actually is. If you get a tablespoon of water and throw it across your top it looks like more than you'd think. Babies are just naturally noisy and grunty as well, so while it could be something like CMPA it could just be normal newborn-ness as well.
