Upping BFing at 6 months

Hi all
LO has had ongoing allergy issues since birth. BFing has been up and down for us, and we were initially advised by doc to stop BF and move onto hypo allergenic formula. Tried this but LO clearly wasn't completely ready to give up boob so I do have SOME milk. 4 different formula brands later, I have now been advised to pump to increase my supply to move LO off formula. Is this realistic at 6 months? Will it be realistic when LO is properly established on solids or am I kidding myself?

That's great! I hope it continues!!

Hi guys
Sooo...for some reason DD hates my left boob haha. I literally have no idea why- there IS milk in there (got a blocked duct) and when I pump my let down seems okay but she would rather have a formula top up than just drink from my left boob! Absolutely fine with my right boob. I wonder if it's related to teething? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Currently using a milk collector on there while she feeds on the right to avoid being totally lopsided lol.

Its not quite the same but if I want my lo to have a morning nap it now has to be a lying down feed on the left. She gets too distracted on the right and doesn't sleep and sometimes tries to move herself to the left boob.
It might be worth trying a different hold or setting for feeds from the left. What happens if you start on the right and move to the left mid feed?
La leche league or the Kelly mom sites probably have info on this.

Update- blah. DD is downing more formula again and the amounts I pump are rubbish :( I'm drinking lots of water- needing the loo lots, but not sure why my supply is still not picking up. I put DD to the breast a LOT, eating loads, drinking well. I even got a blood test to check thyroid function and iron but was told everything is normal. Not sure if it's time to throw in the towel. Really don't want to but nothing seems to be working.

Another update...supply seems to keep dropping and I can't work out why. I'm in domperidone but just feel like I'm drying up. Took a pregnancy test- negative. It's a mystery

Ok so I probably sound bonkers right now but just managed to pump a decent amount...I think it was lack of sleep and stress last night haha

Update...feeling positive :) managing to pump the amounts I used to. Only issue is everytime DD fusses, my instinct is just to offer her formula in case she is still hungry after my boobs lol. I do think she still needs some supplement but probably not every single time I offer it.

Also I did not realise what a big deal oats are...so porridge it is for breakfast!

Lovely update @Fedfedfedup, just remember whatever happens look at it from the point of view that you already breastfed your LO for such a long time 🙂
