I think DS2 is self-weaning ...

And I am ok with this. He is three, after all, and we've done very well. Ok, I'm a bit , as he's my last baby, and I've enjoyed bf, and I'm glad it's gone so well with him. I'm relieved he's stopping, too, as he's always been so keen, and I was running out of steam, not least because he never stopped wanting to fiddle with my other nipple.

But I'm a bit annoyed about how he's stopping - he keeps chosing to be read sodding original sodding Thomas books instead of having a bf at bedtime or waking up time. I hate sodding Thomas books.

And I'm a bit miffed to not be chosen over them, sad as it is. (He's really growing up - he decided to start wearing pants last week, and has done so well, one wee accident in over a week!)

Good your for DS! I can imagine you'd be , but I don't even know when Thomas books are...even so, I see what you mean.

Funny that he never stopped fiddling with the other nipple. My DS does that, and I wondered if it would ever stop! He's 7 mo and I hope we can bf as long as you and DS did. How did you find tandem feeding?

NotQuiteCockney · 07/11/2007 10:50

I didn't do tandem feeding - I fed my DS1 for only 18 months, stopped for stupid reasons. Although it was easy to stop then. Nicer to let him stop when he's ready.

I should have got a BF necklace or something to distract him from the fiddling.

Oh, and he also ended up feeding for 30 minutes at a go - up from a max of 10 minutes when he was a newborn.

my dd just stopped last month she is 2.5yrs old.
we also have bedtime stories but I banned Thomas, dh reads that one while she sits on the potty before bed

am a bit sad too, although hopefully she will not be my last baby

well done to both of you excellent start in life

Note to self: get a breastfeeding necklace or else nipple might eventually fall off from fiddling on part of DS.

I never got damaged, I just got annoyed.

note to self: do not introduce ds to Thomas at all

NotQuiteCockney · 07/11/2007 16:36

That is a very good plan. I am so so sick of Thomas. Once DS1 got bored of it, it wasn't long before DS2 was into it ...

[looking around for Thomas]

NotQuiteCockney · 08/11/2007 08:50

False alarm - he had a bit of boob last night, and lots this morning. So Thomas isn't that appealing.

Well, at least now I know he's close, and it'll happen soon, and be less of a surprise to me.

NQC, ds (2.7) still fiddles with the other nipple, despite the nursing necklace. I am sick of Thomas too so you have my sympathy! It arouses really mixed feelings when your baby is growing up, doesn't it? It is good that you've got some warning that weaning will happen soon, and it is such a positive thing to let him do it under his own steam.

whomovedmychocolate · 08/11/2007 09:05

NQC - you could of course paint thomas on yer norks?

RoRoMommy · 08/11/2007 10:48

NCQ, that's good news. A bit of warning would be in order, I think, when you've committed so much time to something that means so much. And, of course, now you've got some lead time to planning your "weaning" party. I mean, surely not having your nipples used as tuning knobs is worth celebrating??

NotQuiteCockney · 08/11/2007 10:52

I'm happy about stopping weaning, but sad as well.

He's growing up very suddenly, he started toilet training properly last week (of his own decision), and is doing very well with it, dry and clean at night and in the daytime, only one accident in a week and a half!
