If I stop now, will I need to replace the breastfeeds with like a follow on follow on formula or just cows milk?
He’s starting to bite and finds it funny, I’m worried my nipple will tear off one of these days x

Cows milk is fine.

Cows milk is fine. No need for formula after 1st birthday.

Kate3150 · 12/02/2021 21:12

Okay my second question....
Any ideas on how to encourage a 14 month old to take cows milk? He won’t take from bottle or cup 🥴... hes only used to the boob x

You can include milk in food but it's not the end of the world if your baby doesn't drink milk. Other dairy can help with calcium intake.

Baby doesn't need milk after their first birthday.

If they don't drink milk that's ok, don't force it or worry about it. Keep offering but you can give cheese, yoghurt etc to meet their dairy needs

LouiseTrees · 12/02/2021 22:34

Do they not have water?

Merename · 12/02/2021 22:41

I remember googling ‘would a baby bite a nipple off?’ at a similar stage, OP Shock

Although I did find a pattern where biting indicated teeth coming in, and would pass with consistent responding.

Agree that they don’t need milk as a drink. Mine didn’t smoothly graduate onto cows milk from breast milk but liked it later. In meantime got dairy through cheese and yoghurt, and drank water. Mine really like oatly barista as well! Really creamy.

Cows' milk (full fat / blue lid) is fine over 12 months. DS would not drink milk from a cup (or indeed much water Confused) when we stopped breastfeeding at 14 months.
I just made sure that he had lots of liquid in his food and in lieu of milk he had calcium in yogurt, cheese (and I put milk in food - porridge, mashed potato, cheese sauce etc).
The two-handled Tommee Tippee basic sippy cups (see photo) were our most successful. They're freeflow (no valve) and also work well without the lid.
DS eventually started drinking cows' milk when he started nursery at 2.5.
