Formula changing

Hi all,

I'm changing my LO's formula from Aldi Mamia over to Kendamil due to the doctors recommendation.

Do I completely change her or slowly introduce one bottle of the new formula per day?

Currently waiting for the HV to call back but it's been about 6/7 hours since I rang so not feeling hopeful. Also impossible to get through to my GP

Whats the reason for the change?

Tiredmama98 · 12/02/2021 15:53

@dementedpixie she's had constipation pretty much as soon as we put her on mamia formula, lactose was sorting it but she's gone back to constipation now. She also has a horrible rash over her face, neck and scalp which doctors suggested 'may' be down to the milk so they've suggested I swap 🤷🏼‍♀️ x

If the current milk isn’t agreeing with her, I don’t think Kendamil will either as it’s full cream.. it could make her worse. My baby had similar symptoms and when I changed to Kendamil she was even worse!

Every baby is different though, but thought I’d share that.

How old is she?

Tiredmama98 · 13/02/2021 11:42

@Vicky1989x oh no 😢 i didn't really think of that to be honest. What milk did you end up changing to in the end?

And she's 4 weeks x

Hi OP

My little one was on Cow and Gate, similar symptoms to your little one, constipation, wind, terrible colic as well. I switched to kendamil immediately and she was fine. Been fine ever since thankfully!

GandTisgoodforme · 13/02/2021 11:48

Sorry, she had poor skin as well!

sunnytimes83 · 13/02/2021 11:51

No need to mix the formulas, you already know the first one doesn’t work for her so mixing ‘bad’ with ‘hopefully better’ doesn’t make sense x just try a bottle of Kendamil and keep an eye on her x

The doc hasn’t shared anything evidence based with you. It’s poor advice. The milks are all very, very similar by law. If milk is causing a reaction then its most likely the milk proteins - they are in all of the milks. Your GP can prescribe other formulas that have these proteins broken down or even removed - then babies who are allergic can have milk without reactions.

Go back and ask to see a different GP who gives you appropriate information.

@Tiredmama98 I ended up going back to SMA (what I was using originally) - once she got to 12 weeks, her digestive system matured and she was fine.

The rash you’re referring to might just be baby acne, usually clears up on its own.

My cousin switched her baby to Kendamil when he was small and it worked wonders for him too so it all depends on the baby. The only difference between all the other formulas and Kendamil is that Kendamil doesn’t contain palm oil.

Fuckadoodledoooo · 14/02/2021 13:06

I switched to kendamil. We went from a poo twice a week and screaming with wind to a poo twice a day and a settled tummy immediately. Fish oils and palm oils have a lot to answer for IMO.

We just swapped right over.

Perfect28 · 14/02/2021 13:15

I was under the impression that there is little to no difference in the recipe of formula, and that it is highly regulated?

dementedpixie · 14/02/2021 13:23

They all need key ingredients/nutrients but some will have slight differences e.g. kendamil uses full cream milk and no palm oil or fish oil and aptamil uses skimmed milk and fish oil in their recipe

Perfect28 · 14/02/2021 13:26

Thanks!

Sorry to jump on an old thread.
I've switched to Kendamil and he hasn't had a poo in 24 hours, is this normal when switching formula?
He is so much more settled then when he was on cow and gate, I think he had silent reflux as always took an hour or 2 to settle after a feed, he's had kendamil since Monday morning and is settling straight away after his burping session, but no poo so wondered if I should be concerned?
