Hi all
I'm new to Mumsnet so hello...
...Anyhow on baby number 3 now currently 10 weeks and still haven't cracked this BF lark. Had horrible sore nipples with all three and this time the worst with bleeding cracks etc. Finally resolved after 3 weeks with help of lashing of Lansinoh, better latching and patches of Jelonet between feeds. Then got a plugged duct twice which managed to sort out with combing (ha ha), heat pack etc.
All the way through (but particularly tonight with 8 million trick or treaters knocking at door and DH out with the other two...) DS no. 3 has been a fussy feeder and I can't read his signals at all. All of mine have been big babies and monsters suckers. Schooled in the demand feeding ideology with no.1 I did and he got non-stop colic; with no.2 - after bleeding nappy rash from constant pooing such that the doctor eventually had to give me something pretty much like nail varnish (Cavilon, I think, if you're interested) to cover it so it could heal, I read Gina Ford, threw it in the bin, but took to heart the idea of spacing out feedings a bit. Voila! 3 hour feeds with no.2 and a dummy in between meant no screaming evenings with colic, no more nappy rash and much happier baby.
Now with no. 3 I've just lost the plot completely and really cannot tell when he is hungry, tired, colicky or what. Tonight he screamed when I tried to feed him, screamed when I gave him a dummy, screamed when I turned the lights down and cuddled him to sleep, screamed when I picked him and screamed when I put him down...
I'm just a bit lost about what to do. sometimes I think he screams because the milk isn't coming fast enough, sometimes because there's too much, sometimes because I keep sticking a boob in his mouth and it p*es him off - problem is I can't work out which is which...
Any advice? But please don't tell me to just feed him whenever he seems to want it because that just has never worked for me...
Thanks
