How long to stop breastfeeding

My DD is 1 week old. For a number of reasons we have decided to switch to bottle feeding. The midwife visited on day 5 and discussed our options and suggested that I would just be able to stop feeding and go straight to bottles. She suggested wearing a bra all the time and not touching my breasts at all as that would stimulate more milk production. She said they would become hard/swollen and would be sore for a while but then should settle down and just to look out for any red marks as that could indicate an infection.
I've been doing just as she said and 48 hours later my breasts are swollen and hard. The soreness has eased a little but I just wondered if anyone else had stopped feeding at a similar stage and could advise how long this heaviness will last. It's sore to hold my dd at the moment. I'm happy with our decision to switch to bottles and my DD is doing well on them. I just want this to end! Thank you
