why? what's wrong with the tap?

dooley1 · 30/10/2007 18:12

boiled water for formula - for babies up to 6 months bolied water, after that tap water

ggglimpopo · 30/10/2007 18:12

Almost all french formula babies use evian, if that is any help.

Coolmama · 30/10/2007 18:18

Evian has the lowest sodium content so is the best one to use if you choose bottled water for travelling etc or if you can't get boiled water at all.

Lara77 · 30/10/2007 18:23

In my country nobody drinks tap water so I feel like its contaminated or something. I know when its boiled it is safe to use, bit psychologically i don't feel comfortable with the idea.
ggglimpopo, do you know whether it is written on evian that it is suitable for formula?

So, do i need to prefer boiled tap water when i am at home?

There is a symbol on bottled water in france indicating it is safe to use for formula.

I don't know whether it is better than tap - it's certainly more expensive. And millions of british babies drink boiled tap water here with no ill effects.

Does anyone know why you can't use water that's been boiled more than once? I've always wondered about that

Seona1973 · 30/10/2007 19:55

it concentrates the minerals, I think

PippiCalzelunghe · 30/10/2007 20:01

I've used Evian. Low sodium content was told by mum. We always drank bottled water so I am used to it and think tap water, where we are, tastes foul.
cannot give you better reasons though.

Coolmama · 30/10/2007 20:02

Scarybee - boiling water more than once concentrates the lead levels in the water and that is not a particularly good thing.

ggglimpopo · 30/10/2007 22:16

My mother in law has kidney problems and has been told to avoid tap water as the sodium levels are too high.

Yes, in France the bottled waters say if they are suitable for infant feed.
