My anxiety is through the roof and I'm exhausted thinking about this.. I'll try to keep it brief...

DD is 13 weeks. No CMPA, no tongue tie. EBF

When she was smaller it took me hours to get her to sleep with lots of tears. Was given gaviscon, nightmare to give it to her. Given omeprazole. We used it for a week which coincided with her napping better and she settled at night. Then on day 5 became v gassy, lots of poos. We stopped the omperazole after a week and she was still settled - I was v relieved.

Then in the last 10 days we have lots of reflux symptoms. She wakes from each nap crying (but I feed on waking so maybe it is just hunger). Some.feeds are easy others v traumatic. Vinegary poo today. She cant be left on her back for longer than about 10 minutes but if she's upset actually laying her down soothes her. Also think she just doesnt like being alone.

I think it ia silent reflux but I'm terrified of making it all worse with the omperazole.

Dr says its reflux but normal and i should power through and wean at 4-5 months.

Any advice? It's all I think about. I hate to think of her in pain but I dont want to start messing around with meds if its going to make it all worse.

Have you considered trying a paedriatric osteopath? They can often help alleviate and correct issues that affect feeding and reflux in babies (eg factors affecting mechanics of the jaw, gut motility etc). And can also provide a very calming experience for baby - and mum - that may be helpful too. They are still open and allowed to work at the moment. All the very best with this - and take care of yourself too.

Thanks. We tried one with our son and it didnt help but its worth a thought. Thanks

Did you cut out soya as well? That might be why you didn't see an improvement. Egg might also be a culprit.

Reflux is a symptom not a cause.

This isn't normal OP. My first was like that but with my second we got on top of all the allergies early and he sleeps!

OhToBeASeahorse · 14/01/2021 12:22

But the doctor tells me it is! She wakes up maybe twice a night but goes back to sleep quickly after a feed.

I cut out soya as well

The doctor I saw with my first DS was also insistent that I just had a fussy baby. She was completely wrong and the allergy specialist paediatrician I took him to diagnosed CMPA. GPs are notoriously bad at these issues.

I have a paediatrician appointment at the start of Feb so that is encouraging

That's good news OP, just keep going until then. How have feeds been recently?

I've been hand expressing off a bit which has really helped. However she still leaps milk out the side of her mouth - exactly the same as my son did.

Last night she went to sleep peacefully being rocked. Big feed at 2.30 then woke screaming at 4. No idea if it was wind or reflux. I ended up giving her a bath and she fell asleep on me again by about 5.45. Vinegary poo this morning.

I'm going dairy free again just in case.

I find this so hard, especially with lockdown I've no baby group to swap observations with.

She is just happy most of the time so I'm so scared of medicating her and upsetting that.

For me the big signs were that she was upset whilst feeding - it was 4 minutes into a feed like clockwork, screaming, arching her back - it was just horrendous. Completely different to her 'normal' crying.

OhToBeASeahorse · 15/01/2021 15:27

Since I've expressed a bit off at the start she doesnt.

It's so hard. I'm keeping a diary but it's not the same as someone witnessing it is it?

Having said that she has just fed and it was awful
