Baby with silent reflux?

Hi everyone, I'm so stressed and all of this has come from nowhere. My baby is 9 weeks old and suddenly having silent reflux symptoms. He was always a bit refluxy but nothing over the top he just liked to sit up after feeding and sometimes was uncomfortable lying down but that's about it. About 2 days ago out of nowhere he's started arching his back, crying before during and after feeds, going red and throwing himself forward. A dummy seems to settle him but as soon as it falls out he screams. I've tried infacol but that seemed to make it worse. He cries all day and for a couple hours at night before he just gets worn out and goes to sleep. I thought it could be colic but it's only at certain times of the day whereas this seems to be all day. I find this all a bit unexpected because it says reflux peaks at 4 months but he's only 9 weeks old and not had any issues like this so far. We're booked in to see the GP tomorrow for his vaccinations so I'm going to mention it. Could this be silent reflux as I think it is? Thank you in advance

Yes. It could well be. My DD was on infant gaviscon and ranitidine from 5 weeks old. Started as silent, at 12 weeks became vomiting reflux.
Infacol made my DD worse.
Speak to your GP, but go having swotted up on reflux as many like to tell you it’s just colic.

Hi thanks for your reply. When did your DD outgrow reflux. I'm using tommee tippee bottles, tried NUK but both give same results

We tried ALL the bottles and found MAM to be the best, they are a bit faffy to start with but you get used to them quickly. We used to mix formula and gaviscon in the tommee Tippee and then pour into the MAM bottle as we used a perfect prep and Mam have rubber gaskets at the bottom.

Most babies out grown reflux between 6-12 months. My DD missed that memo and is still medicated at 2. But is vastly better. The vomit stopped at about 7 months but the reflux pain still remains.

It could be silent reflux, our symptoms started at 3 weeks but it wasn't until 8 weeks that all the jigsaw pieces came together and reflux was diagnosed she has a mix of regular and silent reflux. We got gaviscon prescribed at 8 weeks, we then switched to omperazole as the gaviscon was making her constipated. We are now at 5 months and on high dose omperazole, gaviscon and lactulose to counter the constipation and I'm on a dairy and soya free diet. I started tracking symptoms and my food at the end of November, I wish I had done it earlier as it was clear that soya set off her symptoms. It might be worth keeping a log of symptoms and food it might help you pin point whether it's reflux or something else
