My 8 week old twin boys were born at 36 weeks- breastfed for 3 weeks and then I got v ill and had to stop quite abruptly. They’ve been formula fed for nearly 5 weeks now. They were downing their 4 then 5 oz bottles and for the last week we tried them on 6oz bottles so they are taking a huge amount- nearly 48oz a day which is a huge amount and we are worried it’s too much. They started off on the 7th and 0.4th centiles and are now up to the 25th and 2nd quite quickly. Should we be reducing their feeds as they drink these very quickly. They’re clearly not overweight at the moment but we are concerned it’s going that way. What’s the best way to reduce? Should we move them down an oz or try and get them to feed more slowly as they guzzle...

They're probably trying to catch up - they were a bit premature after all and I imagine they were small. I wouldn't be restricting milk for any baby, but especially not ones the 25th and 2nd centile - take their cues. Unless you are forcing it down them, which I doubt, then they are taking what they need. Perhaps it is a little growth spurt and they will take a bit less in a week or two.

Definitely not forcing them but we are feeding them on a routine that we started a few weeks ago. They lost too much weight initially and were on a feeding plan. We feed them Every 3 hours in the day and an 11 and 3am feed at night. In the day we sometimes wake them up from their naps rather than feeding on demand. They were on a We did this for our sanity as with two it was so hard to have them constantly snacking. I’m worried they now think they’re hungry when we wake them

Speak to your HV about it, but at 8 weeks and small I'd still be waking for feeds in the night. I might stretch it to 4hrs rather than 3, but I did this with both mine til they were 10 weeks old.

What are their current weights?

48oz is huge you're right. But if it's going down and not coming back up and they're otherwise healthy I'd roll with it for now. They're tiny, they're not overeating, they're not heading towards obesity and you're not teaching them to eat whenever they're awake. They're just hungry.

They are 4.8kg and 4.08 and will be 8 weeks on Tuesday.
