One sided breastfeeding

Hi, my breastfed 6 month old has a strong preference for one side over the other, which has ended up meaning I’m feeding more than twice the length of time on one breast than the other. I know in some ways it’s self-fulfilling, as the side she feeds on is getting the message to make more milk, but I don’t know how to break the pattern.

She’s fussy on one side, barely settles, and even with perseverance she’ll only stay on it for 3 or 4 minutes. Perhaps by then it’s drained, but on the other side can keep going for 10 minutes or more. I’ve tried different holds in case she prefers lying on one side, but it’s not helping.

How can I get the other side to produce more? Any ideas why she prefers one side over the other?

My wee one was like this always preferred the right breast as long as your getting plenty of nappies and putting on weight i wouldn't worry. You can try latching them on when they are half asleep. Even now one side is for feeding and the other is for sleeping 🤣

If you want to produce more on that side then you could pump. If it's not causing you discomfort then I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for replying @shouldistop and @TheFerretsSleeping

Baby is happy enough and not as fat as I’d like, but maintaining their percentile so I guess I can carry on as we are!
