Tomorrow in the Parentcraft room of Whiston Hospital (downstairs in Maternity ward) there will be an antenatal breastfeeding workshop.

Nicki, a midwife who specialises in breastfeeding, will be there to play games with jelly babies and walnuts, show you hand expression on her frighteningly realistic replica boob and generally put your minds at rest about the entire thing.

Several mothers (including me ) who are currently breastfeeding will also be on hand, to serve you tea, coffee and biscuits ... and will of course be happy to answer any questions.

It starts at one o'clock and finishes at three - with regular toilet breaks.

Partners and other children are of course welcome. You don't have to be giving birth at Whiston to attend!!

LuckySalem it's at Whiston Hospital, this Thursday starting at one, downstairs in parentcraft room.

Dads, Grandparents, children, toddlers etc. all welcome (we have toys from baby to toddler; children will have to bring their own toys).

LuckySalem... I remember when I was pg and taking driving lessons by the end of the hour I felt just about ready to collapse!! (Had to stop at 40 weeks my bump wouldn't fit behind the wheel)!! Let me know if you're going to come...

Munchkinmum, the next one... should be the last Thursday in December but due to Christmas and everything I'm not totally sure. Will have to check with Nicki. However you can also come and meet our MW, BFC and lots of other bf Mums every Friday at Whiston hospital, from 10-12 (and often it runs on much longer). It's not a "workshop" as such but you can get lots of information there. And the tea and coffee is still free... !!

Gigglewitch have added you on FB... you have no picture up though!!!

Hiya mossy - are there any in Liverpool? dont venture away from the purple wheely bin area too often lol! do you have to have had your baby already? (sorry i thought it was for preg ppl but am gettin confused with talk of babies being there lol!) im 40+3 at the moment and doesnt feel as though there will be an appearance by thurs, but i am pretty set on BF so all help great! x

Hi Sam, I don't know of any in Liverpool although I'm sure there must be some. I had my ds at the Women's though and you had to book ages in advance to get onto the normal antenatal classes so I don't know whether or not they do a breastfeeding workshop; might be worth calling them though?

The one at Whiston is for pregnant women; it's a two hour workshop (with toilet breaks, don't worry!) and it's quite a good laugh; there's nothing "heavy" or boring. Nicki, the mw who runs it, is a good laugh and a very good presenter so you won't find yourself bogged down with weird pictures of the anatomy of a breast!!

Please do feel free to come along; it's not that far from Whiston station, or you can get the 10A bus which goes from Liverpool through Kensington and stops right outside the hospital.

Sam if you are delivering in the Womens you might well need some decent bf support antenatally as some of the information I was given there shortly after I gave birth I now know to be a pile of *@#~@!

Yes if you can make it it would be lovely and it is very enjoyable, not at all like sitting in a lecture or anything!!

(Not trying to scare you about the women's btw, it isn't that bad honest just that they're not as good on bf as they seem to think they are!!!)

Sam, the Womens now do a Breastfeeding Session separate to the antenatal sessions so that everyone who wants to can get to it. Reception ought to be able to tell you about it but you could ask for someone on the Infant feeding team (headed by Kate McFadden) if you have problems finding out. They also have a Thursday morning breastfeeding clinic if you have problems after the baby is born.
