Ds2 has suspicious white patches in his mouth and I have patches of funny skin on my nips. I'm assuming it's thrush. Dr was happy to just prescribe the treatment over the phone but now I don't know what to do with it .

I've got Daktarin Oral Gel for me and Nystatin for ds2. I assume I put the gel on my nips [clever] but does it need to be before/after a feed or just any time (directions say 4x a day)?

Ds2 really hates the Nystatin and tries to spit it and I have no idea how to make it stay in his mouth like it recommends on the instructions. Any tips on the best way of getting it in?

Also, the daktarin has directions for infants under 2 and says to apply to affected area, so can I just put that on the patches instead of using the Nystatin?

TIA for any advice to help the idiot in the corner .

I have picked up a prescription today for Nystan, which the nurse gave me as DD2 has a white toungue & incase it was thrush- she wasnt sure. She told me although it says 4 times a day to give it after every feed.
Since my appointment with nurse I have spoken to a BFC who is like me, not convinced it's thrush as we have no other symptons so we're going to hold off for the moment.
Could you try a local BFC to check it is thrush?

That's a good idea, thank you. I'm 99% certain it is and the doctor was happy to take my word for it. My boobs have started to feel a bit tender with shooting pains and my nips are itchy but all that's come on since I put the first dose of daktarin on . That's farly classic symptoms, I think but I'll get in checked for definite tomorrow.

Just bumping this as I haven't had any luck getting the Nystatin into ds2 successfully.

(He's 10mo, btw, so quite sure of what is and isn't going into his mouth!)

Try rubbing nystan round mouth with a clean finger once you get it in....if biting teeth aren't a problem!!! They don't need to swallow it. My community pharmacist very helpful with this so worth approaching them for advice.

IME Nystatin was useless - dd2 spat more out than she actually got. Daktarin oral gel in babies mouth (just rub it on his tongue or wherever white bits are) and on your nipples just after a feed. Just use the same tube for both of you until you are certain it is gone. I've had a few bouts and according to a pharmacist friend this is most effective - i tend to agree.
