MAM size 2 teats on 5 week old?

DD is 5+2 weeks old. She is exclusively formula fed.
Over the last week or so I’ve gradually noticed DD’s feeding pattern change, she also seemed to be having difficulty. She started gulping when swallowing which was visibly uncomfortable for her and she’d pull away. Started feeding her upright with the bottle horizontally and wind her every few oz which seemed to improve the situation for a while but then she started falling asleep after about an oz. Today it got to the point where she’s hardly fed, she guzzled her first bottle this morning (5oz) no issues but she’s only taken a maximum of 2oz a time since then which really isn’t enough. She’s my 3rd baby, my others were EBF at this point but I remember when I started introducing a bottle at around 14 weeks with each of them they were started on size 1 which was adequate for both of them for a good few weeks.

I have tried her on a size 2 teat tonight and she seemed to manage well, there was no gulping or choking, she hasn’t been sick or posseted and she took 4 oz. She winded well and is currently happily snoozing on my chest.

It just doesn’t really sit quite right with me putting such a young baby on to size 2 teats but then neither does 1/2oz every 3 hours.

What do others think?

I used MAM bottles for my prem twins. I moved them to size two around the same time as this for the same reasons.
They stayed with size 2 for considerably longer too.
As long as you don't think they are getting excessive wind or being sick then I reckon go for it.

I don't use the same bottles I use TT but I moved to size 2 teats when DS was just 3 weeks old as he was taking ages to feed. He took it all very quickly and was a very happy and content baby. HV said sometimes the advice is to go up a teat and that the 'months' are just a recommendation.
