5 month old not drinking enough milk help

My 5 and a half month old DS is bottle fed. He has never been a great feeder but he had improved a few weeks ago. We are now having terrible problems getting him to drink enough milk, he regularly only has 2-3 oz per feed, on a good day he'll have 4 or 5 oz but this is rare. We have started weaning him on the advice of the health visitor as he was not gaining weight, about 4 weeks ago. Solids are going well but I have been careful just to give him baby rice and bland vegetables and some apple and pear, want to take it slowly as he is young. The GP has prescribed infant gaviscon as he thinks reflux could be the problem but I don't know....... he does cry during feeds when he has had enough, sometimes arching his back, turning his head from side to side, refusing to have the bottle anywhere near him etc. The GP said reflux often goes undetected as it can be symptomless. The other thing that has happened recently is that he has had some blood in his driblle, I checked his mouth and there was no obvious cause, no teeth coming through yet although he chews constantly on his hands. I am worried because the GP said that sometimes the oesophagus can bleed if the acid has made it raw but I forgot to mention the blood in his dribble to the GP when I went. I am so frustrated by his lack of milk consumption (has about 20oz a day plus 3 small solid meals and I mean tiny) so not sure this is enough, plus he is still nto sleeping through and wakes up crying around 4am not sure if this is pain or hunger.
Really need some advice - help!

Hi Jen ,
My heart goes out to you ,I'm going through the same thing at the moment. My daughter is 6 mths old and has been weened for about 1 month whilst most of the time it goes well sometimes she refuses milk i have cut her back to 4 feeds a day 1 for breakfast not on solid breakfast yet!!! 1 for lunch after about an hour ,water with her tea and then 1 at seven and 1 at eleven she sleeps through but like you she did wake up at about 4 and i increased her solid intake . I went onto hipp organic jars and she loves them so much for my home cooked food . I have realised that she is probably teething can't see anything yet but all we can do is comfort them and carry on with the force feeding !!!! good luck
