Confused re formula transition

Hey

I am changing to formula from EBF. I'm really confused though. LO feeds 12 times a day and sometimes hourly, when you move to formula feeding is he not going to expect alot of formula? I can only give him as instructed right? Has anyone else had problems making this transition and little one not feeling full enough? Sorry if stupid question like I said very confused! How did everyone make the transition?

PS please no BF anti formula people telling me I should stay BF and asking my reasons only people who genuinely want to help answer the questions (can you tell I have had a bad experience of people telling me what I should do haha 😬🤣)

What age is LO? I weaned my 9 month old recently when I went back to work. Unfortunately she was a bottle refuser so began by offering her formula in a sippy cup at about 6 months. Offered every day. Took a few weeks and finally she accepted the bottle and now loves it!

She still feeds (formula) more like a BF baby, so drinks little and often. For me, I worked it out by looking at the daily allowance and spreading it over the times I knew she would really want milk - so for us, that was morning, pre naps (2), pre bed and overnight. So if the reccomended amount was 20oz in 24 hours, I gave a 6oz bottle before bed and then 4 oz at other times described above. If that makes sense? There is no way she would have managed three larger bottles! So it meant she was getting her intake, but in the way she was used to eating.

Weaning onto food and changing sleep patterns obviously meant a good bit of adapting as time went on. But that’s whTs worked for us!

And it’s not a silly question. I was totally confused! Not sure what age your wee one is but best of luck! Ironically after spending so long desperately hoping my little girl would take a bottle, I’m now thinking about how to wean her off formula and onto cows milk (as she is nearly one).

BF babies take on average a floz an hour so I wouldn't expect baby to take an awful lot of formula at first.

I'd pick one feed for know and swap that one, preferably a feed where you can hand them over to DH/DP if you have one as they often accept the formula better if you're not around.

You can always call one of the BFing Helplines where a BFC can talk you through ways of stopping and reducing your risk of mastitis and they can discuss quantities and types of formula too Smile
