Anyone read the book by the NCT?

I got it out of the library, and I guess I just wanted to see what others opinions of it were.

I have read it cover to cover so am able to discuss....

NCT book's ok but bore no resemblance to real life for me. This rooting reflex just wasn't there with DD - wouldn't open her mouth. All books assume baby is there with mouth agape, just looking for boobs to scoff - DD just wasn't interested.

i think i know what you mean piemama2007, im just not 100% sure it has really helped me.

Im pregnant with my 3rd child, and failed twice before with BF, so really want to make it work this time.... hence reading up.

Anyone know of any other books that may be more "true to life"?

I think the book is very good - basic, easy to read, and covers most of what you need to know and very true to life!

PieMama, if a baby has no rooting reflex, then it's probably the case that the baby's tempiorarily affected by the birth or by pain meds, or is just not interested in feeding at that particular time. The other possibility if a baby refuses to open at all is that someone ( a midwife?) has done a bit of head ramming to get the baby attached and the baby reacts by 'switching off'. These are issues that can be fixed.
