When to stop sterilising

How come UK guidelines say that all bottles and dummies should be sterilised until baby is 12 months old and US advice is 3 months old? Also, some say you can sterilise in the dishwasher?! And some say it’s ok to wash immediately with very hot soapy water and rinse really well, and then only sterilise every few days. What do you all do?
