Getting omeprazole into baby

Any tips on how I can get dispersible omeprazole into my baby?

Can I mix it with milk rather than water?

Have you tried using a syringe and slowly getting it in? Little bit at a time inside the cheek.

It’s a nightmare because it never properly dissolves and just sits at the bottom. If you are to dissolve it and give it to them that way you want to do so in the smallest amount of liquid possible as the taste is horrendous. You can’t disguise it in milk (in my experience).

I really struggled with my ds so I spoke to Pediatrician and said it was impossible to give it to him so she prescribed the liquid form. They normally try you with the table to dissolve first as it’s more accessible and cheaper than the liquid form but I found it impossible and having to contend with all the faffing of dissolving the tablet and making sure he got the granules that’s collected at the bottom (the taste is horrible) on top of an already unsettled reflux my baby was just too much.

I thought it would be really hard to get my hands on the liquid one (it’s kept in the fridge) but actually just explain you have a newborn and you literally can’t administer the dose and they should give you the liquid one. Xx

@ellax that's good to know.

I'm pretty sure Dd will end up on it soon so I'll be sure to ask for liquid.

I've actually found that crushing it on a spoon and adding a bit of water then spooning it in works really well for us. Then I rinse with a bit more water and I can catch what dribbles out

I used to get baby fruit gel and suck it up into that.

My daughter is on the losec one and you have to dissolve it in 10ml off water and she only gets 4.5ml for her weigh.t. Tablet says do not crush. She's been on it from 8 weeks old and she's now 6 months just use a syringe to give her it as you can get it further to the back! X

It’s a pain! Don’t give it with milk though, apparently it makes the medicine not work properly. You’re meant to have at least 20 mins or so between feeding and giving the meds. Good luck, I found it much easier when I was able to give it to DD with fruit purée (which is ok as not alkaline).
