No breastfeeding before surgery?

My daughter needs her teeth out (long story) and she is 22 months. I've been told she isn't allowed to breastfeed past 12am and nothing but water until 6am. Easier said than done! Is this true?

there was an interesting thread on this recently, I'll do a search. They were allowed to bf long after all other food and fluids were stopped.

Thanks for that, I thought I had heard that you could. Frankly I am not sure how I am NOT going to be able to. She is just a baby!

you really need to speak to the anaesthetist though. Why does she need her teeth out at such a young age?

She fell on her four top front teeth and they have basically been dying ever since. They can't leave it until she is older as they are getting quite bad. It's very sad really

They are phoning later and I will definitely ask but I wanted to have some info first

Yes, definitely speak to the anaesthetist him/herself. DD neede surgery at about 18 months and the surgeon said I could breastfeed her until 6am as breastmilk was a 'clear fluid'. The anaesthetist however hit the roof and refused to anaesthetise her until much later I know he was only thinking of her safety but it was very stressful hanging around for hours extra.

With her next surgery I didn't breastfeed past 10pm and expected her to kick off when she woke, but she was fine actually.

Good luck

that's sad crace. I hope all goes well with the surgery. And yes, it is ultimately up to the anaesthetist.

Just an update from us, she can feed until 4.30 am tomorrow with surgery at 8am so that's pretty good going. Just going to feed feed feed tonight as per her norm.
