Breastfed baby sucking arm

My 6 month old has just started doing this.

I will bread feed him and he eats fine, then if he gets distracted he stops and looks around. Refuses breast, then starts sucking my arm.

At night he has been doing the same. He has been waking every hour to feed, so I have been trying to gentle stop the feeds at every wake. But if I don’t feed him he just starts sucking my arm furiously to almost soothe himself. Last night for example I fed him a long feed 8pm before he went to sleep, he woke 11pm and I fed him again. Then he woke at 12pm and I try to just rock him back to sleep without feeding but he just turns head and sucks arm. I ended up feeding again as could settle him without him trying to suck arm/ hand etc

He refuses a dummy. He does like a comforter teddy but I haven’t been letting him have it overnight as was told nothing in cot before 1 year.

How should I stop this?

It could be as simple as trying another dummy, one of mine refused anything except MAM.
It does sound like he's sucking to soothe himself.

@TikTakTikTak - thanks. We have tried various different size, shape and material dummies over the last 6 months. Nada. He likes to suck the arms off jellycat comforter toys though

I’m just at a loss how to reduce his night feeds if every time he wakes, even if it’s 30 mins after he has been fed he wants to suck my arm/ chest/ neck or wherever he can reach. He doesn’t seem to do it daytime as much and is happy to go a couple of hours between feeds daytime
