Bottle feeding amount

Hi ladies , my newborn has turned 1 month today and I’m a little bit puzzled. Health visitor and midwife said my baby is okay to take 90 ml of formula at once however he seems a lot more hungry and was wondering how much should I be giving my little one ? We’re using Aldi’s brand formula. Sorry that post is really short , baby is really unsettled. He is also suffering from colic and we have been taking colief drops

Offer 4oz /120mls and see if they take it. You feed to appetite

I’ve the opposite - just posted about my 10 week old who only drinks 2oz (60mls!)

With my other children, I made bottles to an ounce more than they were drinking when they were regularly draining bottles so they could gradually up their intake themselves. So make him a 4oz bottle and see how he gets on.

Feed him as much as he needs.

I wanted to increase to that amount however midwife and health visitor said that 2oz should be enough ? as you can easily overfeed you little one ? im just so confused because on the labels it states differently as well, what you guys have said... Am i the only one who has been advised to stick to 90ml?

Okay as a mother of three - listen you your baby. Not the HV or midwife. They know guidelines, not how your baby is feeling.

You don’t have to see them even. If you do continue seeing a HV, Just nod and agree and then listen to your baby.

Babies are great at regulating their intake. They will stop when they have had enough. If you do somehow over feed, they will be sick. Usually though, they will give you signs they have had enough, stop drinking, fuss, or push out the teat. It’s hard to willingly overfeed a baby.

Gereral advice (even on the nhs website) is to formula feed on demand as much as they want to eat.

Hey! If it makes you feel any better my not even 3 week old is taking 4-6 ounces a feed and that's every 2 hours or so. He is so hungry and I've worried about over feeding but I give him what he wants and when he is full he won't drink any more. I can't stand seeing him cry hungry 🥺
