does anyone know how much formula milk an almost 8 month old should be getting. a couple of months ago i think my HV said no less that 21 oz a day. he currently has 3 bottles a day - one in the morning, one mid afternoon and one before bed. he has three meals a day and a healthy appetite!
also, he isnt kean on taking water and gets quite peed off when i try to offer him it, especially during meal times. as soon as he gets wind of what it is in his beaker he has a cry! i dont want to give him that baby squash stuff but is this better than taking hardly any water and how much water should he be having at this age? i have tried adding water to his foods, is this ok?

The general rule we were told to tell the mums at our nursery was that as long as they have a really good glug morning & night (ie 16 ozs over 2 feeds) & as long as they were getting plenty of water with their 3 meals a day they wouldn't suffer. So if your little man is managing 3 you're doing fine! The third bottle can be optional if he's growing out of it in the afternoon. What we sometimes do is get the mums to bring in 2x 4oz bottles & use one in/with their cereal (weetabix or porridge uses up a good slosh!)then use the other 4 ozs mid afternoon. Keep trying wit the water at meal times & he will get used to it-he doesn't need juice really.

You can add formula milk to foods to help wet the puree/lumps if you want to get more down him.
