Starting to express for midnight feed

My DS is now 4 weeks old and breastfeeding is going well. I'd like to express one feed a day for my partner to do at midnight, so I can get a longer stretch of sleep!
When would be the best time of day to express this, and how much should I be offering? He's about 9.5 lbs at the moment.

Many thanks!

I reckon you need something between 60 to 100 ml. For a new pumper that would be a lot to get in one sitting so you might need to do 2 or 3 sittings to get that. You would likely get the best volume out of the first feed of the day. So perhaps you could start there and then do an afternoon and early evening pump. If your lo falls asleep straight after a feed this is a good time to do it.

If you have a very good supply or once you have got going you should be able to get what you need in one sitting which will make it easier. Good luck.

That sounds really sensible. Thanks for your help
