My baby is now feeding in the night - why?

My baby who is now coming up to 5 months old has all of a sudden started feeding again in the night

Once at around 2:30am and again at around 5:30am

Before this baby had been sleeping through from around 10pm to 7am from about 8 weeks

She’s exclusively breastfed

Will this end soon?

Totally normal. Lots of development going on!

SweetTeaInTheSummer · 02/10/2020 06:25

Probably a growth spurt. There is a big one around 6 months she could be hitting a bit early. If she was a good sleeper before, then all being well she will return to that after this phase. It helped me to learn that baby sleep isn't linear - it doesn't necessarily start off terribly and get better and better until they sleep through. There are ups and downs, especially during the first year. It can feel frustrating but it's totally normal. Hope you get a good night's sleep soon!

It’s good to hear it can come and go. Sometimes it feels like this will be forever

I’m worried about when she grows out of her Snuzpod that il still be feeding in the night but having to go and get her from her cot in another room

Our room is too small for a cot to be in it.

Did anyone have a child that lasted longer than 6 months in the snuzpod?

With baby sleep, everything is a phase. If it helps, she sounds like she is doing very well to me!

Only two night feeds at 5 months is an easy baby. Baby’s sleep isn’t linear, it gets better and worse all the time.

I was going to say you've done really well to go without any nights feeds for so long! Shock

My 5 mo has never slept through without feeding and 2-3 times a night is normal

Babyboomtastic · 04/10/2020 22:03

That's a pretty average night for my 18mo tbh. I think you've had it pretty good until now and it may come back or it may not, but just be glad that you've had a decent stretch until now at least.

My exclusively breast fed baby stopped night nursing at 3 months exactly and then started back up again at 6 months exactly . I was like wtf noooooo lol . This continued until he was 9/10 months old when he stopped night nursing and he started sleeping through the night again .

One more thing to add ....

My little one outgrew his snuzpod at 7 months and moved to his own room . He use to wake up once around 4am to nurse . It was a bit annoying having to get up to go to his room but he actually slept better in his own room ( and would sleep in later ). And it was really nice to have my room back !
