4oz is coming out at 5oz on perfect prep

Sorry this may be a really daft question (FTM).. . I have had a look online and there's a few having the same problem as me but couldn't really see a definitive answer!

When I select 4oz on the perfect prep the final bottle size is 5oz. Is that then a 4oz bottle or a 5oz bottle as the volume is 5oz rather than the desired 4? I think I've been overfeeding my wee one and I'm just trying to work this out 😂

If any of that even makes sense! One tired mummy over here lol

It will come out as a larger volume as the powder takes up space in the bottle. You have 4oz of water and 4 scoops of formula so I class it as a 4oz feed.

It’s 4oz. . When you mix the 4iz water and powder together, combined the amount will look more.

You aren’t over feeding your baby, If chant is drinking it then it’s perfect. They would let you know if they didn’t want it!

Baby not chant!

It’s four ounces of water but you’ve added 20g of powder which takes the total volume to nearly five ounces. If you made the bottle the long way of boiling a kettle, you’d measure out four ounces into a bottle then add four scoops and the end result would be the same. I would count it as a four ounce bottle.

If you were making the formula yourself, you’d put it in and top up with water to 4oz. Perfect prep actually adds 4oz of water. I still don’t know which way formula is meant to be made as you do get different solutions.
Having said that, DS was absolutely fine so I never worried much.

You’re not overfeeding as the nutrients are in the powder and not the water. It might be more or less diluted but human milk isn’t always the same either.

It can get quite frothy after you've shaken it up with the hot shot, this can make it look like a larger volume too!

You should be measuring out 4oz of water, then adding the 4 scoops of powder (as per the instructions on the tin). Regularly feeding incorrectly made formula with too much or too little water can cause health problems.

It’s a 4oz bottle but if you are worried about overfeeding, look up “paced” bottle feeding to slow things down and make sure he doesn’t take more than he needs.

Thank you all!

He had a few projectiles, so I wasn't sure if he was taking too much or what was happening.

Health visitor is out tomorrow so at least I can chat to her 😊
