Increasing expressed amounts

Hi hi. My DD is 10 months and I go back to work in Dec. Currently she BF's at 7, 11, 3 and 7 and I need to change the 11 and 3 to formula. I have been expressing at night (10pm) and in the morning (9am) to try and stock up so I can do part BM-part formula to change over slowly. BUT I am only getting between half and 2 oz everytime I express - is there anything I can do to increase the amount I am managing to express? At this rate I am only going to have enough for a week...and somehow think its going to take longer than that . Would really appreciate any tips! Thanks

What used to work for me was expressing from the unused boob, at the same time as baby was feeding from the other one, hth's?

unfortunately she takes both sides at every feed. I have tried expressing the second side which she takes less from but I am lucky to get half an oz doing that.

what kind of pump are you using? if it's electric then remember to start off on the lowest setting and gradually increase, it'll definitely help you get more out.
aside from that all I can suggest is expressing more frequently

How long have you been expressing? I found it could take 5-7 days before my supply increased enough.

In another 2 mths she may well have dropped one of these feeds. Mine had all dropped the 11am feed by 1yr.

yes, that reminded me. Your dd will be 12 months by december so there is really no need to offer formula at all. you could just use the EBM you have stored by then and replace other feeds with water and do a big bf morning and night

moondog · 07/10/2007 22:47

You know, she could go without EBM or formula don't you?

My dd was fine all day with water or juice from 8 mths although we carried on b/feeding for 30 mths.

I didn't even give her milk of any other form. It's a fallacy that they need it at this age. Mine had it in cereal as well as eating cheese and yoghurt.I've never given my children cows' milk or formula to drink.

Thanks very much for all the advice - sorry for the late reply but DD picked up the dreaded tummy bug! All good now and expressing is better as I am being more patient!
