How to stop breastfeeding?

My LO is 13 months old and I think it's time to stop the boob, or at least cut it down. I do still love feeding my boy but now I have returned to work and he has started nursery it was so demanding and he seems to be waking up for it in the night as a comfort thing. He only started nursery 3 weeks ago so I don't want to stop suddenly as it wouldn't be fair to him, but I feel like it's time to regain my body back. He's a strong little lad now and he pulls and scratches my boobs to bits! He's gets comfort from squeezing and nipping my boobs (sounds strange) but it's really starting to hurt.
Again, I have loved the experience and I know I will be so sad when it's over but I think we need to make the transition.
How do I go about doing this? Do I need to replace milk feeds with cows milk? TIA x
