Biting during a feed

Just looking for advice, my 8 month old daughter is EBF going through a biting stage. She has seven teeth and previously went through a 48 hour period were I offered her the breast and she’d instantly clamp down with her teeth, this resolved and we carried on as normal. Now she’s started again, the biting has been instant as she’s latched so I’ve taken her off and waited to try again but occasionally she will nip me during or pull away with her teeth at the end. I’m hoping it will resolve as I don’t feel ready to give up feeding her yet and wondered if anyone had experienced the same and had any advice😌 My nipples can’t take much more!

My DD went through a very minor phase of biting at about that age but now she's 13 months is going through another. I simply have always taken her off the breast, done up my bra, removed her from me and tried again in 10 mins. If she does it again I offer water. So don't really have any more advice but consistency is key and have my sympathy it bloomin hurts!!

Forgot to say she doesn't often do it again after first time- I think the horror of my doing up my bra is enough!!!

I recently went through this with my 8 mo. The advice I got was to wait until they're definitely hungry, check the latch - with a correct latch the tongue actually covers the bottom teeth, observe and disengage the second they're full! It worked, she's stopped biting and we're onto month 10 now. Good luck!

My ds did this for a week when he had teeth coming through. It was awful, I would dread bed times. I resorted to driving him around then transfering him to bed when he was asleep and feeding him when he was asleep as then he wouldn't bite. My dh thought it was a big faff to do this. I have never experienced pain like it!!

Thanks for your advice, I massively appreciate it, I think it’s been the worst part of feeding her so far!

I think I’m going to try and up her solids and space out her feeds so she’s hungry enough that she doesn’t want to waste time biting and then try and get her unlatched before she has time to realise she’s fed and can chomp down!

@CostaCosta weirdly she seems to do it worse at her feed her before bed so I’ve been absolutely dreading that feed😂 honestly sometimes the faff is worth it, if he was biting your husbands nipples I’m sure he wouldn’t consider it a faff!
