8 wk old breastfed baby - awful smelly wind! (sorry)

My little boy is 8 weeks old and exclusively breastfed. For the last week or so he has been really screaming in the evenings - proper pained cries, not just moaning. He only stops after a series of huge very very stinky farts ...he didn't used to be like this - it's only recently. I haven't changed my diet or anything.

I mentioned it to the HV who said it's colic, and that I should give him gripe water - this seems to help with bringing wind up, but he still produces these awful farts all evening and often at night too - he wakes himself up sometimes

Any ideas what might be causing it, how I can relieve him, whether it warrants a trip to the GP or not? He is gaining weight well, plenty of wet/dirty nappies - it's just that his wind smells so bad I am sure there must be something wrong in his tummy!

If that's the case I have a dh and two ds's who have something very wrong in their tummies!!
If you're worried give your GP a call. It's probably nothing but if your HV hasn't reassured you it may be best to get it checked out for peace of mind.
