Hi all,
Just wondering if there is something I can do or just need to ride it out if it's normal really...
My son is 5 weeks old today and he had been doing really well with feeding up until maybe a week or two. He has got up to 90-120ml and was feeding on average every 3 hours.
Then he started wanting to be fed every 2 hours, so we upped his bottle to 150 but he didn't want it. So back to 120 to save formula. He doesn't even always finish 120.. sometimes he'll have as little as 60. He seems to be a snacker - I looked up a little about how to help them feed better so you're not feeding every hour and it says try to keep them awake during the feed as he often drifts off mid feed. We did that and it helps, but still he won't always finish his bottle even after some coaxing. We can tell when he's not going to have anymore & won't force it. If he has less than 100ml though, he never lasts longer than an hour before crying for more food.
We thought maybe the hot weather was making him a bit dehydrated.. but he's still doing and did it just before too. He has plenty of wet nappies and is keeping it down... he has put on plenty of weight, is a right chunker with all this milk he's been downing. He had some problems with gas and refusing to burp but we give him dentinox with his milk and that's really helped with that.
It just seems a lot, and like he's gone backwards a bit from what he was doing before. And of course I don't want to be feeding him every 1/2 hours, especially during the night. Shouldn't it be getting better as time goes?
