Probably best to say up top that I know all babies are different, and I would never deny my baby milk. I’ve included our daily routine, but I always feed my baby on demand and would never deny her milk or even comfort just because it’s not the ‘right’ time.
That being said, how often do six month old babies generally feed?
I made a post the other day on this forum about my baby seeming less and less interested in breastfeeding, and seeming to prefer a bottle (formula). She has also been hit and miss with taking a bottle in the past couple of days now too.
Yesterday she basically refused milk other than small amounts until around 4pm, at which point she cried for milk and had a really good breastfeed, went out in her pram for her last nap, and then came back and had another, smaller breastfeed.
Our routine is:
Wake her at 7.10
BF 7.30
Nap 9-9.30 or 9-10.15
BF 10am or 10.30 depending on if she has a long nap or short nap
Solids (nothing actually eaten) 11 or 11.30
BF 11.30 or 12
Nap 12-2pm or 12.30-2pm
BF 2.15
BF 4pm
Nap for 30 minutes, somewhere around 4.30/4.45
Sometimes BF top up around 5pm depending on what 4pm feed was like
Formula 6.45pm
In cot at 7.15 for 7.30 bedtime
2x night feeds - often around 11pm and 3am but this varies quite a bit
Given how she was yesterday I’m wondering if this is too frequent. I try to offer milk before she gets overly hungry, in part because I don’t want her to miss out on milk she needs in the day and then make up for it overnight!
Should I space feeds out more?
