BF positions for long and wriggly 7mo

DS is getting tricky to feed during the day -- he doesn't like lying down still (too busy trying to crawl and/or stand) and writhes around during feeds until he gets too distracted and comes off. Are there any positions I could try which might help? I have tried with him sitting up but don't seem to be able to get the right angle. (Up til now he has been lying on a BF cushion.)

Have you tried with both of you lying down? That might keep him a bit calmer.

Also my DS (8 months and very wriggly) gets easily distracted when BFing unless he is in the mood. If he really wants it he is quite focussed but can be a nightmare if in public as he is v nosy and likes to look around at everything. It may help (if possible) to take him to a quiet room with no distractions and maybe even close the curtains if that helps him to concentrate.

Always!

He will feed OK lying down during the night (we co-sleep part of the night) but during the day he will just roll onto his back and start propelling himself around the bed.

Sounds like my ds2. During the day he often gets himself into my lap (from the cradle position) and is sitting up to feed. He then stands up, still latched on, and sticks his bum in the air lol.

He still feeds a lot during the night so gets what he needs then I think. He tends to snack a lot during the day and then make up for it later.

Meg, you could always try something like a feeding necklace, which you wear and LO can play with to distract them from everything else, i got one but never got to use it with DS as I ended up having to get him to feed whilst almost asleep (thus the dreadful sleep associations i'm now trying to break with his naps!!!) I think they're called jingle boobs:

I did it at that stage (and later) sitting on an armchair with curious array of cushions. I also got a 'breastfeeding necklace' which gave wriggly baby some in-house entertainment, other than pulling my hair / earrings /glasses / anything in reach.
