Formula feeding when out?

I am currently 22 weeks pregnant and wondering what the rules are on making up formula when out and about. I'm not planning to use formula, I have my heart set of BFing but I have hypoplasia so, with all the will and help in the world, I have to accept it most likely won't work out.

So, I have been thinking it has been 11 years since my last baby was born. Back then I used to take a container with separate compartments with pre-measured formula plus several bottles with cooled boiled water. I then would put the formula in shake and give it straight to my baby. No heating, nothing.

I understand that the advice has changed now? Is this not advisable these days, or still okay to do? If not, what is the easiest was to make up bottles when out?

Take a carton and a sterilised bottle or take a flask of hot water and an empty bottle and premeasured powder. Or pre-make the bottle, chill for a couple of hours in the fridge and then store in a cool bag with an ice pack - it will keep for up to 4 hours. Would need warmed up when required

Personally I just use the ready made bottles of formula when out. Very convenient but it is expensive. Or I know someone who takes the little pots and two flasks, one with hot water and the other with cooled boiled water, so she can use the hot water to destroy any bacteria in the formula and then the cool water to make it to the right temperature.

Should point out that I have a weird baby who will not drink warm milk!

Oh blimey, I really hope BFIng works out. That sound like a right faff!

Maybe we will have to go the expensive option of cartons if it doesn't.

Thank you for your suggestions Smile
