Confusion about milk alternatives weaning??

Kate3150 · 12/07/2020 13:38

I’ve been giving my 7 month old the HIPP Organic porridge and he really enjoys it.
I also have porridge for breakfast and I mix mine with almond milk. Can I give him a bit of this or is it a big no no!? I’m reading conflicting information online about milk alternatives and feel more confused than ever.

TIA X

Yes it's fine as long as his main milk source is breast or formula milk

Yeah it's fine!

I think it's better actually moving from the "baby porridge" to normal as it's so expensive and fresh or frozen fruit added to normal porridge must be better for them than the freeze dried one in the baby porridge.

Sorry realised that could come across judgemental I didn't mean that at all, we did the exact same as you but then I got sick of paying so much for the Hipp porridge! My son ate mountains of it

Thank you, don’t worry @doadeer you didn’t sound judgemental at all. I find it a faff making him separate porridge to myself so would be happy to make us one we can eat together. So another question, he can be given just normal porridge oats? X

We use ready break which is just fine oats but you could always experiment!
I think when my son was really little I used to make it with breastmilk or formula then moved onto whole.milk but I have friends who use oat milk.

I usually just mush raspberries or banana in and sometimes some coconut. It's only 1min 40 in microwave. Super quick

Yes normal porridge is ok
