Combi fed baby and constipation/trapped wind.

Currently feeding about 60% formula (Aptamil) and 40% on breast. She's pretty tricky to get wind up when bottle fed, very hit and miss. We're trying infacol. But she seems very uncomfortable, straining and tensing her stomach after most feeds. She is having one massive poo a day with normal consistency but we hate to see her uncomfortable and getting upset when straining.

I know this can sometimes be common in formula fed babies so if I upped the breastfeeding, would that help? Also,if that's the case,is there anything I can eat to help her?

We're already doing the cycling and we're going to try cooled boiled water in between feeds. Also going to get some ready made bottles of aptamil as heard the powder can sometimes be a culprit

Hi Layladylay234

I can’t say much about breastfeeding unfortunately as my milk never came through so DS is formula fed but he did suffer with really bad trapped gas for the first 2/3 months. He’s just 14 weeks now but I think his stomach has matured and it’s not as much of an issue. We tried everything infacol, gripe water cycling legs. Eventually what changed everything was using a lactose enzyme Colief, using anti-colic bottles and having him as upright for his feeds as possible. We also tried burping him in between feeds at the start too although this became unnecessary after he got used to the colief and anti-colic bottles. And now he is 3 months+ and he doesn’t need either anymore.

Thanks for your message. I've had a quick look at the colief,it sounds good. And you used it because your LO was struggling with wind? I don't think it can be constipation as she is pooing so it must be trapped wind.

I did think it was constipation to begin with but his poo was a normal consistency and he’s not a big pooper - even now he has no pain but still sometimes only goes every 1-3 dats - it was trapped gas causing all of his issues and the colief and anti-colic bottle combo was the only thing that made a significant improvement
