We started our 6 month old son on formula 3 weeks ago from being breastfed. Dropped 1 feed a week so currently having 3 bottles a day and I'm only feeding him for bedtime and during the night. He is on similac lactose free formula as he has a dairy intolerance. He used to be a decent sleeper only waking twice for a feed and back down really easily but now be is waking multiple times before we have gone to bed with suspected tummy pain and generally really restless in the night. Could this just be his tummy getting use to the formula?

We also started weaning but have taken it very slowly, 1 meal a day of just pureed veg. The health visitor and Dr have suggested I continue breast feeding as the formula is causing my son pain but I really am ready to stop and I am due back at work in a month. But I obviously don't want him to be in pain 😭

Any advice welcome, feel like I'm going round in circles

Curious re the formula, was it prescribed For the dairy intolerance and that’s why you stopped breastfeeding ? Would help me potentially give better advice if I understood this part. Have you tried expressing breastmilk and mixing part and part? How many mls/ounces in each of the bottles? Also how well and when burped during the formula feeds?

Just read the due back at work but. I pump every 4 hours (but know I can go longer) so am planning to pump before I leave, at lunch and then when I get back home.

So the formula was prescribed a couple of months ago as a back up incase in didn't have any milk expressed so that my husband could feed him. I had to cut dairy out as he reacted through my milk and couldn't have normal formula. So he only used to have the odd bottle and was fine it's just since he started having more bottles that he has been struggling. I am a teacher and don't really want to put myself in the position of needing to express in school or not having enough milk expressed for him!

Ah okay yeh... difficult to find a quiet place. You could ask if they could prescribe a hypoallergenic formula as those are a step more removed and are lactose free but have proteins broken down too.

Could this be related to weaning onto solids? My DSs sleep really went to pot at 6 months because solids gave him all kinds of constipation and wind issues. It settles down just in time to enter the 8/9/10 month sleep regression 😱

If it’s related to the solids one part fresh orange to like 20 of water will help.

Are you giving him water after his solid meal?
