Help! My baby's refusing to eat....

I have an 11 week old and she's refused her last 3 feeds - just starts screaming as soon as I try to put her on the breast. She's usually a good, regular feeder, but she's not had anything since 11am. I'm not sure if this is something I should be panicking about?? Any advice? (She's gone to sleep now, which she would not normally do without milk first, but has no temperature or other signs of illness)

This could be teething, I remember dd refusing to take a feed when her gums were sore. She is on solids now at 7.5m but recently refused food for two days when she was teething. Are there any other signs that this might be the case?

I did think about that - but 11 weeks seems a bit early for teething?? I've not seen any excessive dribbling or other signs...
I'm worried how long she can go without anything to drink, in case of dehydration.

How old was your DD when she refused food?

call NHS direct - 0845 4647.

Just chked their website and they said for a baby this young you need to get it checked out.

IT could be nothing major, but get it checked as she is so little.

thanks for that armadillo - i'll see what they have to say

the nurse at nhs direct has told me to call out the after-hours doctor, because she's so young...and it's probably nothing but it's best to be sure. He was nice though, and at least i no longer feel like a paranoid parent!

Hope it all turns out to be nothing and the dr puts your mind at rest. THey tend to play safe with young babies.

massivebigpantsface · 19/09/2007 22:26

hope all is well, let us know how she is doing when you get a chance

btw, i think my dd was about a month older when she refused due to teething
