Newborn feeding all the time (FF)

My newborn is 16 days. He is feeding al lthe time, almost. We do not want to overfeed him, but at the same time, he finishes bottle nad sometimes an hour later shows signs of hunger, biting fists, clicking tongue. My first fed 90 ml every three hours at this stage from what I can remember, and then 120 every 4 hours, but here we give 90 and need a top up well before 3 hours, and probably feeds more in the region of 800 ml if not more (with weight 3.4 kg). Anyone in the same boat?
I guess I am a bit scared as my first had reflux and actually overfed because it soothed the pain, and I am hoping this is not a sign of the same thing.

Issues around feeding can be so stressful sometimes!

It's normal for newborns not to have a feeding pattern, as such.

Have you seen the info on the NHS website?
"Feed your baby when they show signs that they want it. Babies tend to feed little and often, so they may not finish their bottle. Having a big feed does not mean your baby will go longer between feeds."

Is baby finishing the 90ml bottles?

NameChange30 · 17/05/2020 09:30

Could be tongue tie

Thesearmsofmine · 17/05/2020 09:30

Sorry I just reread and he does finish the 90ml so I would up his bottles to 120ml.

Have you tried a dummy? Maybe the sucking soothes him

My DS is 9 weeks now but at the 3-5 week stage his feeding was a total mess. He cluster fed and there were days I honestly didn’t put my boob away all day. I felt like I only got up to go to the bathroom and just sat feeding him and crying whilst DH ran around making food/drink and passing me stuff I needed. It was brutal. My HV said it was likely a mixture of DS being 3 weeks early and him having a growth spurt.

Yes, he is mostly finishing the 90s, looks happy and then an hour later wants more!

@mysurveysays He wont take the dummy, pushes it out with his tongue and chokes, we tried different brands :/

We have had the same with 60mls really, we upped to 90, but the amount of feeds have not gone down and the stretches have not become longer.
