BF and sore nipple- ouch!

I don't know what's happened but for the last 2 days one of my nipples is agony!! It feels bruised and tender but no visible signs of trauma and I didn't notice anything happen so no idea what's caused it.

Could bf baby (6m) have bit that hard without me noticing? Poor latch? Something else? Any tips for easing it welcomed!

No idea on that one sorry. Hopefully someone will be along soon Thanks

This happened to me, and it was sore for about a week and nothing visible externally. Breast tissue is delicate, and baby could easily cause some tissue damage,I didn't notice when it happened to me either. Babies have such a strong latch that the bruised tissues and glands hurt when they feed.
Keep a look out for signs of mastitis (red/hot) and just ride it out.. and of course contact HV/GP if needed.

Any signs of thrush in Lo's mouth at all?

majesticallyawkward · 17/05/2020 14:52

No signs of mastitis @Moooms or thrush @ginandgingers92 . I'm on watch for mastitis though, luckily I've never had it but am scared of getting it.

Baby is happily feeding still, and it's his preferred side 😭

How's it feeling today, OP?
Just had a thought, could bubs have accidentally latched just off the nipple even for a few seconds? My daughter did that to me a few weeks ago, and it was agony! And lead to a painful patch

If it continues, get some nipple shields. I know people say they are the work of the devil blah blah, but I fed both of mind using shields throughout - one for 14 months and one for 9 months. Just sterilise between uses.

Still sore @ginandgingers92 but seems to be improving. No signs of a rash or lumps so that's good!

I suppose he could have latched badly during the night, he doesn't always wake me up and will just wiggle over and help himself. He's got the start of a tooth so has been bitey recently too

I have nipple shields @LittleCandle havent used them in ages but they saved me at Xmas when he forgot how to latch for a while!
