Day 8 breastfeeding

Hi all,

I'm fully breastfeeding my daughter and Just had a question about what’s normal for day 8, she’s feeding 2-3 hourly, wakes for feeds but gets sleepy quite quickly and will only take one side unless I change her nappy half way through. She has plenty of wet and dirty nappies. She feeds actively for about 10 minutes I would say then she sort of flutter sucks. Midwife saw her and she’s 80g from her birth weight. Also my breasts are not feeling firm anymore although one feels more firm than the other. Sorry for the long message!! Does this sound all normal for day 8?

All sounds perfectly normal to me. It's totally normal for them to take short feeds at night and also to suck actively then give short fluttery sucks.

If you want her to start actively sucking, you could always give your breast a little squeeze. These are called breast compressions.

Congratulations on your new LO too Thanks

Congratulations on your new baby! Sounds normal to me too. My baby often does the flutter sucks when she’s not actually eating but sucking for comfort once she’s done if you know what I mean. But that’s really good she’s 80g from her birth weight, she must be feeding well Smile

All sounds normal :) once your supply regulates your breasts don't really get hard any more (unless you skip a feed).
